Food is our subsistence; it makes us feel happy and safe. It is meant to keep us healthy and strong. So what happened these last 50 years?
With the intention to safeguard sufficient food for a growing population and an end to hunger it was thought necessary to industrialize the process of production. An idea which seemed logical at the time but has in many ways delivered the opposite. Besides, the introduction of chemical pesticides, mono-cultural production and confined animal feedlots has made farming one of the worlds worst pollutants. Evenly devastating is its dependence on oil. We use ten calories of fossil fuel for every calorie we produce.
